LMMS tutorial on how to automate panning and tempo.

Add more diversity by automating the pan knob or give your song a dramatic finish with tempo automation.

How to automate panning:

  1. Open a song then look at the Song-Editor.
  2. Click Add automation-track then look at the Beat+Bassline Editor.
  3. Pick an instrument to automate then hold CTRL+click and drag Pan knob to the Song-Editor beside Automation track.

  4. Hold left click and drag the right side of the automation to lengthen it.

  5. Right click on the automation and click Open in Automation Editor.

  6. Using the Automation Editor:
    • Left+click and drag to create a rough pattern.
    • To create a straight line pattern:
      1. Left+click for a starting location.
      2. Hold SHIFT and left+click the end location.

  7. Go to the Song-Editor, CTRL+click and drag the automation to repeat the pattern.

  8. Listen to your song, your instrument should now pan from right to left and back again.
  9. If you have another instrument or drums, create an automation for it and reverse the panning.

  10. If you want more then one instrument to use the same automation just CTRL+click drag each PAN knob to the same automation in the Song-Editor.

How to automate tempo:

  1. Open the Song-Editor then click Add automation-track.
  2. Hold CTRL+click and drag Tempo/bpm to the Song-Editor beside Automation track.

  3. Hold left+click and drag the right side of the automation to lengthen it.

  4. Right click on the automation and click Open in Automation Editor.

  5. Left+click on the left side to create a start location for a straight line.
  6. Hold SHIFT and left+click where you want the ending to be.

  7. Listen to your song and hear the tempo slow down.
